John, Oh My God, this is like drilling teeth without Novocaine!
John, you and many others have assisted me many times over the years, but this dilemma is a very hard pill to swallow.
I asked the following in a previous response to you, but I really want to understand the philosophy of this a bit better.
"But it begs the question.
Why the heck would I move to a SQL server if the response time would degrade this far from a plain old access BE on a shared drive ?"
I've been paging through your book Inside/Out looking for comfort and solace and come up empty!
My only recourse for this poor application is as follows:
The application FE sits on the customers desktop.
I link to a ms access BE on a shared drive for tables which require fast access (transnational), an assume they are small in size.
In one instance I have a large table which requires very secure access, (Patient Data) so I put this out on the SQL server.
What I end up with is an Access FE on desktops which is ODBC linked to an MS ACCESS BE on a shared drive, in addition to an ODBC linked to a SQL SERVER for my 5 gigabyte secure warehouse.
Will this fly ?
terence
