Hi Robin

The instructions I gave you should work for Access 2013.

Select the "ARRANGE" ribbon tab under "FORM DESIGN TOOLS"

Select any of the grouped controls.

Click "Remove Layout" (this is in the "Table" group on the left of the
ribbon, fourth button from the left)

Thanks John,

In Design View after I click the 'Arrange' tab the 'AutoFormat' option is
nowhere to be seen. I am using Access 2013 perhaps this is different as
mentioned by Graham.

Layout group, and the button you want is third from the left - Tabular /
Stacked / Remove. Click Remove.

I have managed to build a form and I have finished up with s ix of the
labels and fields enclosed in a broken line which is preventing me
change the positions of two fields.

What is this grouping called? How did I happen to win it? How do I remove
it?
