=[Forms]![f_InvoiceCreation]![q_InvoiceItems].[Form]![txtSumOfItems]
.. as I originally suggested would have also worked as long as the outer form is named f_InvoiceCreation.

for some reason, I opened the file on home computer and spend 60 seconds putting this in..
=[q_InvoiceItems].[Form]![txtSumOfItems]
now it works perfectly..
