Microsoft is famous for turning out terrible products every other version. Windows XP was an excellent OS. Vista - garbage, Windows 7, great, Windows 8 garbage.
Access 97 - rock solid; Access 2000 buggy until several Service Packs later; 2003 (my favorite!); 2007 garbage; 2010 another winner.
As far as contacting MS support about bugs: you might as well talk to a tree. If the bug isn't found in the beta it won't get fixed until SP2 if ever. SP1 usually causes more harm than good. I always skip any SP1 no matter what the product.
I guess this is understandable. The software gets more and more complex with each version. Fixing one thing will probably break several other things. We, as Access developers have it pretty easy. If we make a bug we can usually find it and fix it without blowing something else up...at least if we keep ourselves reasonably disciplined and our libraries current.
