You certainly gave me a lot to think about John.
I'll start with Offense # as seen in the screen shots: I will change that to Incident # in the new database. That is the police report number assigned to the incident. That will be the primary key in the Incident Table.
In the Incident table the Type of Crime allows the user to check all that apply (I believe). If there are mulitple victims in an incident they could very well be victims of different crimes (Ex. one homicide victim, and one attempted homicide). I'm guessing I will need to make this a combo box in order to allow multiple selections? (The same would apply to services provided.) I also think that maybe the form for adding new incidents should include a place to select victim #1, victim #2, and co-victims from a lookup? but maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.
I see what you're saying about Co-Victims being in the same table. That makes sense. As it was explained to me, a co-victim would be the surviving family members (Ex. a homicide victim's wife and children). The co-victim isn't necessarily a direct victim of the crime so maybe a simple check box for Primary Victim and Co-Victim can be added to the Victim information table.
As for restitution, I' I was told by the advocate using the system that she doesn't use the restitution part of it anyway and I can scrap it. I don't remember talking to her about the Offender information.
On the victim Information form, the box at the bottom that displays Incidents looks more like query results from the Victim table and the Incident table. But I believe she is currently able to select one of them and click Add Service if she's provided another service to THAT victim for THAT incident. Will that still be a subform or subreport?
The victim advocate has been out of the office all last week, and apparently still this week, so I haven't had the opportunity to dig into the old database any further.
