An Append query should lock only the "empty" blocks available for insert.

John would probably know for sure, but I don't think an append would lock the entire table. It seems to me like this would be a case for locking at a record level.

It seemed to have fixed things, but since we’d been running an older version (the update) and the newer version (the append) at the same time I would occasionally get the error.
Another complicated thing is that I’ve seen network interruptions lock the tables because Citrix doesn’t lose the connection or something.
However, I was wondering, that is it possible that an append query could lock an entire table?
