Matt-
John,
Again thank you for the quick response. However, I've tried that and the form doesn't like it. There are some automatic updates that happen when the record is viewed. I inherited this db a few years ago and it is extremely complex. This is what I was thinking of doing:
1. creating an unbound text box that captures the users login id (i.e. matthew.randolph)
2. then setting each control to ctr.locked = true.
3. when that person advances/regress records or leaves the form remove the name from the textbox then setting ctr.locked = false.
4. if someone tries to edit the record display a msgbox "cannot edit, " & textbox & " is currently editing this record".
My problem with the above is, I know where to put the code to lock the record (On current) but don't know where put the code to unlock it.
I have played around a little bit however, I'm getting errors. Let me know if I'm think down the right path or if I'm just creating more work than it's worth?
Again thank you for the help. After this, could I pick your brain about Error Trapping? I really don't know much about it, I've just used what was already in the db, but I'm now creating my own forms and don't really know how to utilize on error.
Matt
