Re: [MS_AccessPros] ACCESS 2010 FE/BE Server Issues!!!!

Matt-

Yes, it's a server or network issue.  When in Spain, you could try opening Windows Explorer first and connect to the share to at least establish the connection ahead of time in Windows.  Given the issues you've had with Access, you may even find that Explorer locks up trying to connect.  If Explorer does connect, it might help your database connection because the link to the server is already established.

John,

Ok, I guess I'm just not explaining correctly. I'm in the military and the way the servers are set up are each geographical location has it's own server that everyone connects to with their profile. Maybe this will clear it up.

My command is in Naples, Italy and we are on server:  \\ds\seunadfs11\  everyone's profile (login) is stored on this server. the backend database is stored on this server as well in a shared folder.

\\ds\seunadfs11\marmc-na-shared (top level folder).  All the tables in the FE are linked to \\ds\seunadfs11\marmc-na-shared\RMC_JOB_TRACKER_be.accdb. When I'm in Naples and log in and open the FE (saved on the local C:\ drive operating the database has no "lag" time. Pretty much click a button and it does what you want it to.

When I go to a detachment of my command, in Rota, Spain, they are on a totally different sever. \\ds\seurodfs11\ everyone's profile (login) is stored on that server. When I open the FE while in Rota, Spain (with the tables linked to \\ds\seunadfs11\marmc-na-shared\RMC_JOB_TRACKER_be.accdb) about 5-6 seconds after opening the database, Access error occurs stating: Not Responding. if I do not click anything nor move the mouse, just sit there, about 10-15 seconds go by and the database opens with my switchboard. Once I try to view the data via another form about 5-6 secs after press a button Access states: Not Responding. Again, if I don't do anything and just sit there for about 15-20 secs the form opens and I can navigate through the records.

However, if I press any buttons while the database states: Not Responding, it will not do anything and all my tables in the backend get corrupted and will not open. This is the first time I've split the database and tried to utilize it in two different locals.

Interesting fact that I also noticed if I map the share drive here in Rota, Spain where the BE is located and just try to open the BE (tables only) the BE database also states: Not Responding after 5-6 secs. Is there a setting I need to correct in the BE or is this strictly a server issue?  I hope this clears some things up. If not, I'm sorry for wasting time. Again thank you such a quick response.

Matt
