Re: [AccessDevelopers] ACCESS OVER VPN LINKS

I used a similar Access application on TS for years. The key is that the front end needs to be copied to each users' own directory. I had a shortcut on the user desktop which checked the latest version and copied new if needed. It was set up so long ago and worked flawlessly such that I don't remember the details. I never had to meddle with it.
Whenever I updated the front end, I'd copy to the folder that the shortcuts checked. Everyone was automatically updated on their next log in.
I can tell you there is no noticeable difference between local and TS user experience, even over the oldest mobile and dial up connections. I haven't modified the application in years but it is till used this way and the setup stands rock solid with no intervention since initial setup.

Hello Guys

I have an Access 2010 application which processes cheque / cash requisitions. I have the backend on the server and users have the front end. Everything works fine in our location.

Now it has become necessary to install the application in two other remote locations. We have VPN links to these locations. With the client / server setup at the remote locations the application works fine but is painstakingly slow. I tried to have it on terminal server but the challenge is that if opened by more than one user it opens in Read-Only mode which doesn't allow the user to save any attachment (and this is a requirement because scanned copies of supporting documents have to be stored in the system). Everything else works fine.

I was thinking of having the backend at each location and then replicate them later in the day but the problem is numbering. The requisition are auto-numbered.

No w I'm on my wits' end. What's the best way of dealing with this problem?

TIA
