RE: [MS_AccessPros] Split database security

Lon

If you don’t have to relink when you move the BE to the user’s local drive something is fishy. Not relinking would mean the FE is still linked to the BE on the server. Could it be that the FE is locked as read-only. I’ve seen that happen when Access thinks the file came from an untrusted source like the Internet.

Open the FE on the user’s computer and save it as some other name. Then see if the newly named file is still read-only.

Subject: [MS_AccessPros] Split database security

I recently built a new database, splitting it so it can be used by multiple persons.  The database was built in Access 2007-2010 and converted to Access 2003 version because we still have some Access 2003 users.

The problem is that on users' computers,  the data in forms and subforms is locked and can not be changed.  In other words, the database becomes read-only for everyone other than the creator.  I've never run into this issue before.  There are other split databases using this same server that operate without problems.

Here's what I done/checked so far to try to overcome this issues.

1. Made sure sharing permissions on that server and the folder holding the .be file on that server are set properly, i.e. all the users have permission to use that folder.  I even created a special accessusers group on the domain controller and assigned all the users to it.

2. Added the .be location to the list of trusted locations.

3. Changed the macro setting in both the front and backends to allow all macros to run without warning.

If I move the backend to the user's machine, everything works.  I don't even have to re-link it, although I do.

Any ideas?
