Kevin-
I generally avoid Compact on Close because it was suspected to cause corruption, particularly if done in a shared database.
Unless you're using temp tables in the local copy (DELETE *, load with new data, use in a report), you should have no need to compact the front end.

Dear All,I have a frontend "hotel.accde", and a backend "hotel_be.accdb". All actual tables are stored in the backend. My question: is it necessary to set the frontend "hotel.accde" as "Compact on close"? , if I chose not to compact on close, will it affect or damage the backend? Thanks in advance!Best Regards,Kevin
