That’s just it, John. The only way I have found to see the original object is to remove the shortcut from the group. Now, as I write, I realize that I can also change the view to a non-custom view, then make then do the rename but that still involves several steps more that would ideally be the case, in my opinion.

You should be able to rename the original object (in All Objects view), and the groups should update automatically.
