Liz-

Something has gone wrong in your table. Consider copying the table to the clipboard, paste structure only to a new table, then paste append. Your new table should have its next Autonumber set correctly, so just delete the old table and rename the new. (You'll have to delete and rebuild any relationships.)

An alternative is to run a command like this:

ALTER TABLE MyTable ALTER COLUMN AutoNumber COUNTER (x, 1)

… where MyTable is the name of your table, AutoNumber is the name of your field, and X is the highest current value plus 1.

Check the Increment property for the Autonumber field in design mode. Is it set to Increment or Random?

Also, when they just click new, it picks an unused number that isn't the last and highest. This seems reasonable to me considering all the data I had to delete.

I need to maintain the existing autonumber generated value, so I don't want to resquence them.

Pros, I messed up a database and had to delete a bunch of data. I have an autonumber field and a procedure that allows someone to duplicate a record.

When they duplicate a record it isn't taking the highest of the high, but a number in the middle. Is this normal behavior?
