To my developer friends ... I posted a video on YouTube that you might be interested in.
Office App Store: JavaScript API Tutorial for Office using Excel 2013 (cc) music by Jubal Lee Young
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjpuEsm7Ad4
What are the new apps for Office?
Learn what they are and how you can get started using and building them.
1. download an app from the Microsoft Store
2. Create a new workbook using Excel 2013
3. Insert an app from the store on an Excel spreadsheet
4. set Excel Options so you have permission to run the app
5. review Code to read from and write data to Excel.
Learn what to do for the steps that are missing in the instructions.
All the links shown in the video are listed in the video description to make it easy for you to look stuff up
I see a good opportunity for developers ~
Once I get more figured out, I plan to show how to make an app using Visual Studio. I thought it was particularly interesting to use a JavaScript tutorial to demo getting and using a new Office app (that is the geek in me ;))
If you are thinking about building something, now is a good time to start learning. It can be something simple ~ and maybe you will share how you did it with everyone :)
These apps do not replace what VBA does; they work differently. And yes, JavaScript uses different syntax than VBA but not that hard when you break it down ~ it is objects, methods, and properties, just like we use all the time. The demo app has examples of JavaScript code to read and write information ...I made sure to show all the code for those who can't download the app ~
I am interested in hearing your comments and ideas ~
