Thank You, that works a lot better with tab delimited

Hi Jim,
If you're importing the data from Excel into an existing table in Access with the field defined as text, I would think everything should import. However, defining the cell format as text in Excel does not guarantee the field will be typed as text in Access when you link to the Excel sheet. Access determines the data type by sampling the first few rows. If the data is all numeric, that column in the table will be typed as numeric. To ensure you get a text data type make sure the first row contains text in that column.
Another way to ensure you get the data type you desire is to save the Excel worksheet as a tab-delimited text file and use an import specification to import the data to Access.

Subject: [MS_AccessPros] Excel to Access issue
Hello,
We are getting a download from a website and when you download it we save it as Excel 97-2003 and then try to import it into Access. But there are a combination of Vehicle #'s that are not all numbers but have numbers like P0729 and 0628. We have changed the format in excel to text for the column and changed the format of the table to text. But when we do the import, all vehicle numbers with the letters in the vehicle number are missing. Is there something that I am missing to get the characters to show in the access table?
Thank You
Jim Wagner
