Sorry this sat idle for so long. I guess everyone is busy with other things
today.
For your Yes count do it this way:
On the field name line of the query in design view, put YesAnswer:
IIf([MyYesNoAnswer]=-1,1,0)
Then make the Totals line a Sum. What that will do is add up all the 1's and 0's
giving you the sum of the result.
If that doesn't work as expected please post the SQL view of your query so we
can see what it looks like.

Subject: [MS_AccessPros] help in a query regarding yes/no query answer
I have a database that we use for patient satisfaction. the answers in the
survey consist of listing provider names, ranking question results from 0-5, and
one question that is a yes/no answer. I have tried a number of things to get a
count of the number of yes answers for the month/department and the results of
the query cause the overall results to only give me all the answers to the
people that have answered yes.
How could I get it to count the number of yes answers without limiting the
remainder of the data to only the yes answers.
we have a report sheet that breaks down the results by month, then department,
with averages for the majority of questions and I would like it to show a count
of the number of yes answers for that month/department to this question.
I hope this is not too confusing. I look forward to any help I can get on this
one. thank you very much
Patty
