RE: [AccessDevelopers] Auto Numbers

I'm lost. Do you have a table with an autonumber field? Are you attempting to add records to this table? Do you want to force values into a numeric field? Is this a batch of new records or single records entered through a form?

What I want to do is to add new records and Auto number the key field
starting with the highest profile number. I know I can use query to do it,
but the existing records are related via the profile number to other tables.
In other words I could move all the data into a new table with an AutoNumber
field, but the relationships would be lost.

For example the main table is clients. One of the related tables is
Passengers. A single client (who is paying the bill) might have himself and
others as passengers on the trip.

Jay,

There are some of us who subscribe to multiple groups so posting the same
question across more than one group is a bit annoying. If you don't get an
answer in one group, then it might be appropriate to either clarify your
question or post to another group.

Apparently your profile number field is an Autonumber (based on your message
subject). If this is the case, you can't change the numbers or fill in the
gaps. If you feel compelled to do this, then you aren't using the autonumber
correctly.
