You've reinforced my point in that either a third party app needs be factored in to extract data or one could use the code example I shared that will open a selected pdf file in the default pdf reader. Once open, a manual search can be performed.

If you look at a .pdf using Notepad you will be able
to see what a mess it is inside. It was designed to
be that way to prevent it from being changed.
Your only hope is to open the .pdf file then copy and
paste the content that you want into a textfile.
Then providing the text file is in a suitable format,
you may be able to import the text file into your Db.
But, try Googling, Extracting data from a pdf,
and you will find lots of information on how you may
be able to extract data by buying software.
You can get trial versions of most packages but the
results obtainable will depend on the layout of the
data in the .pdf file.

and offers a trial download too.
