RE: [MS_AccessPros] Blank Database

Bill-

There's no reason to have a Record Source if all the controls are unbound!

John,

Would it be acceptable, since there are only unbound combo boxes, to remove
the data source all together?

Bill-

If the query isn't updatable, then you will get a blank form. A table, by
definition, is updatable, so it'll bind to the empty new row that exists in
all
tables, even those without data.

As I said before, this behavior is normal. If you put some data back in your
tables, the controls would show up.

John,
The controls are in Design view. The form only has 4 combo boxes and a
button. I
have a few forms like this. They allow the user to set the parameters for
queries and reports. Some of them show the boxes and some of them do not.
The
ones that do not show the combo boxes had a query as their data source. The
ones
that did show the combo boxes had a table as their data source. When I
changed
the data source to the table the combo boxes showed up, also when I just
deleted
the datasource all together the combo boxes showed up. The tables have no
data
in them either so I am a bit confused there. If there are no records, just
combo
boxes, do I need a data source? I am not sure why I did this 6 months ago. I
just copied my original form when I needed another similar form and that
doubled
the error.

Thanks for your help. I can at least go in and fix it now.

Bill

The controls are there in Design View, right? And I bet the Recordset is not
updatable or you have turned off Allow Additions for the form. When there is
no
data in either case, the form comes up blank because there is nothing to
which
Access can bind the controls. This is normal.

I have a finished database and I was going to create a blank copy by
importing
all the structure with no data into a new database. Works great except on
two
of the forms none of the items in the detail section show up. (4 combo boxes
with lables and a button) I open the form and I can see the header but the
detail is blank. I tried to recopy the form from the original database but
it
still shows up blank. I could not find anything in the properties that was
different. I tried compact and repair, no luck.

Any idea what I am doing wrong.
