RE: [AccessDevelopers] Question on report sorting/grouping

Are all of the Station IDs grouped together as shown in your example? For instance would NEW ever be located in more than one section of the report?

If the Station IDs are always together, you could create a totals query that groups by Station ID and includes the Minimum of the Seq. Add this to the report's record source and set the primary sorting/grouping on the Min of Seq. and then sort of Seq.

No problem Duane.  In case the formatting is lost, I need the report to be sorted by Seq value (4-9 in the records below), and would like a dashed line printed whenever the Station ID ("STU", "NEW", "IOW" below) changes.

Track Seq Car         LE Block To              Station KD  W Z B Commodity  BOL
...
4 TTZX 857087 L  WAUSAU    STU STUART  STUART  FB        FORMS CONC

        5 HS    89231 LL RAMP      NEW NEWTON  NEWTON  P         2 C/TOFC
        6 HS   903126 LL RAMP      NEW NEWTON  NEWTON  P         2 C/TOFC
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7 ARMN 765183 E  MILLARD   IOW IOWACIT IOWACIT R         **EMPTY**
8 HLTX   7209 L  ALPLA     IOW IOWACIT IOWACIT C         PLASTIC
9 CIC    2075 E  CIC       IOW IOWACIT IOWACIT C         **EMPTY**

Thanks very much for your willingness to have a look.

I don't typically open any attached files so I have no clue how you actually want to sort and/or group. Could you type some sample records into a reply with the dashed lines in the appropriate location?

Subject: [AccessDevelopers] Question on report sorting/grouping [1 Attachment]

[Attachment(s) from Joe Atkinson included below]

I'm attempting to create a report based on the sample seen in my attachment.  Without getting into VB code, is there a way to generate the dashed lines whenever the Station ID (e.g. "STU", "NEW", "IOW") changes, while still keeping the records in order by the Seq value?  I've tried to do so via grouping, but if Seq is first in the sort/group order, the dashed lines appear between every record, and if it's second or non-existent, the report correctly groups the Station IDs, but it rearranges everything into Station ID order.

Thanks very much for your assistance.

Joe
