RE: [MS_AccessPros] Rant - was E-mail on Change

This thread reminds me of a "manager" years ago who got upset with me when
the requested changes to an existing program included a report reflecting
transactions sent to another department. The report had required a third
internal sort in the COBOL program and was a pain to create.

Her comment was "I don't want a HUMAN to have to look at the report." I
said OK and ripped out the third sort and report. Two weeks later she came
to me asking how she was supposed to know which transactions had been sent
to the other department. My response, "I don't know. The report that no
one was supposed to look at provided that information."

Apparently my response was OK as she went away and left me alone.

Yet another managerial example reflecting the little used "Thought is
Required" practice.

Been there, done that, myself. The amazing thing is that usually we do
manage to produce what we said we could do despite the subsequent re-think.

Isn't there a famous U.S. military quote, "The impossible just takes a
little longer."

Glenn

I moved this out of the OP since we've hijacked it.

I get requests that make me cringe all the time. I just say, "Of course I
can do that!. I can make Access do anything except walk my dog. And if I can
figure out how to make it snap on the leash, I'll be able to do that, too."

Then I go back to my desk and think "How the blazes am I going to pull this
one off?!"
