Bls: Bls: Bls: [MS_AccessPros] Re: Everything about Barcode and Access

I have a friend that have a mini market, and he ask me to make an application to handle selling products of the mini market...
I've made an application like it but not use barcode, because the products are few (used in restaurant)...

This a new challenge for me because the products in the mini market is about 11000 items...so i have to use barcode..

Hendra

yes, and nothing will be able to read all of them.  this is why many stores print their own barcode labels instead of scanning what is printed on the package.

>"Is it okay to store several barcode types in one field...? and does the scanner still can read them..?"

a barcode is simply a sequence a characters ... it can be however long you want and contain whatever information yu want.  It is common for the parts of a scan to mean something.  What type of business are you in?

Hi Hendra,

you're welcome

a barcode is simply something printed in a barcode font.  Barcode readers will have fontlists they can interpret.  The barcode font(s) you install on your computer will appear on the font list for every Windows application.

When you design reports and labels to show barcodes, change the control format to a barcode font instead of something like Arial or Times New Roman :)

it is easy :)

Thanx Crystal...
So all i have to do is just buy the barcode reader and try it to the labels...
I have vba codes to generate 39 barcode type, i want to use that codes to generate barcode for many products that don't have barcode label yet...

but several products are have they own barcode builded from the factories that produced the products, and i don't know what the barcode type are...

Is it okay to store several barcode types in one field...? and does the scanner still can read them..?

Regards
Hendra

Hi Hendra,

Access treats the scan just like you typed something on the keyboard ... so no extra coding required ;)

Make sure the barcode reader has the ability to program a TAB after the entry.  Some give you option to add ENTER as well -- at least one, and preferably TAB is essential to not have to write code to figure out when an entry is done.

Crystal
