Thanks AD...well done. However, the need to retain these defaults BY USER would require me to append the userid to each property.
That being said, it's still an approach to consider.
Best approach of course is 3 linked tables to allow for both user-specific defaults and application-level defaults and settings. This approach also accommodates custom lists as well.
