Thanks Bill. John's suggestion solved the problem, but I just may look into those power toys.

Actually, I owe you both an apology. I didn't mention that I usually have [two] mdb files open at the same time. Closing either of them would probably have worked, but I usually need both open. Anyhow, the problem's now disappeared, even with both open. Thanks again!
