RE: [MS_AccessPros] Creating an executable in Access 2007

Sally-

The entire reason they "deprecated" User-Level Security is it is easily broken
and doesn't interface with Windows at all. There isn't a good way.

Hi John,

You say user-level security still available for old format files, what's a good
way to lock users out of Access 2007 tables?

Thanks,

Sally

Sally-

Creating an "executable" version has never secured the file or the tables. Both
.mde (execute only in 2003 and earlier) and .accde (2007 and later) files "lock
down" the code, but you can still get to the tables. Perhaps you're thinking of
the User-Level Security feature that's still available for old format files, but
that was never real security.

Good morning all,

Where I work we have a hyperlink through the intranet that will access the front
end .accde version of Access for the user to access and run it.

My problem is that someone with enough knowledge can still open up the tables
and manipulate them. Is there a way to lock up the front end so that this can't
happen?

In the old version all you had to do was create an executable and that was it.
I'm not seeing this in Access 2007. What am I missing?

Thank you,

Sally
