[MS_AccessPros] Re: Citrix vs. Desktop environment

I think you're not giving us enough to build you any ammunition. If you want "specifics" you need to provide "specifics" :-) You don't mention if the BE is SQL or MDB, if you are using a custom System.mdw, how many users you're talking about, *which* citrix environment, if you need special privileges on any directories, if you have any special printer requirements or other devices, are they going to be using roaming profiles or not, and so-on. I would like to assume your outsourced department have the Office licences sorted but you never know and it is probably easier with 2003 than it is with 2007. (Even when you do provide the information, we might not be able to

We use an Access 2007 runtime quite succesfully over a 2X Server environment but if I/we didn't have full Admin access to the server I would either throw all my toys out of the pram or, relax, shrug my shoulders and say something to the effect "well, it all worked OK until they changed everything" ;-)

BTW, when I say "quite succesfully" I mean that we *do* have special hardware requirements and I/we have built all kinds of specials into the Access Application and onto the Desktops being served in order to handle these things.

Updates *can* be easier to handle in a Citrix/RDP/2X/... environment than in a traditional Multiple Desktop environment.

The one issue we do have, and it's one which the guys you're dealing with should be asking you, unless they know your Application better than you do, is how much disk space each user is going to need for your application and its supporting files.

We are trying to find the downside of citrix vs. a desktop troubleshooting/maintenance environment, so that we can use that as weight for our own argument. =)

That part is obvious to us, but apparently our tech guys don't understand.
