Re: [MS_AccessPros] Medical database

I was not suggesting an executable. I was thinking they meant the Users
could download the database and use it providing they had Access (or the
Runtime). Best idea, call the hosting service and get clarification...

No, you can't turn an Access database into an executable file. You CAN use
the Access runtime to run an mde or mdb file. But it is still a Windows
client file, running on the desktop, not in a web browser. You'd do that with
your CD.

I wonder if you can get this hosting service to explain what they DO mean?
They may have something like a Terminal Services hosting operation. See
what access hosting offers here

that look like what this Ephost service is talking about?

Hi Gina,
I don't think that is what Ephost meant, but I wouldn't mind people
downloading the entire MDB file. Better yet, if I remember correctly from many
years back, it's possible to convert an MDB file into an executable file so
that people who don't have Access can run the file.
A subset of the database will be in a book I'm writing. I might put the
database on a CD and package the CD with the book. Russ

My 2 cents worth...

"My webhost says I can upload an MDB file and users will be able to use it
as if the database resided on their own computer."

I take the above statement to mean,,, your User can download the database
and use it on their desktop NOT on the website.
