Re: [MS_AccessPros] Medical database

Hi A.D.,
Thanks for the help, and for the sample database. I downloaded your MedicalDiagnosis sample and it looks very much like what I had in mind. There were two versions in the zip folder, one for Access 2K and one for XP. They seem to be the same, functionally.
I'm particularly anxious to see how you did the many to many relationships.
If I adapt your MedicalDiagnosis sample, I'll make sure that fact is noted on my website. Russ www.potbellysyndrome.com

Russ,

My sample db named MedicalDiagnosis might be of interest to you. It is in access 2000 file format and is available at Rogers Access Library. Link:
http://www.rogersaccesslibrary.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=45

This db demonstrates an interesting presentation of many to many relationship between symptoms & diseases. Some of the features covered are outlined below.

Diagnosis
As the user selects various symptoms in the subform at left, matching diseases (that exhibit all the selected symptoms) get displayed at right. With the selection of more & more symptoms, list of diseases gets correspondingly narrowed down.

Data Entry
(a) Integrated interface for data entry facilitates smooth population of junction table bridging the many to many relationship between diseases & symptoms.
(b) After entering the disease name on main form, the user can select/enter corresponding symptom in an unbound combo box. If it matches one of the existing ones in the symptoms table, corresponding Symptom_ID gets entered directly in the junction table.
(c) If the symptom entered in the combo box is a new one, it gets appended to the symptom table and newly generated value of Symptom_ID gets entered in the junction table.
(d) In either case (b or c above), newly added symptom for the disease in question is displayed duly highlighted in the subform, in appropriate sort order.

Best wishes,
A.D. Tejpal
