Re: [MS_AccessPros] Cannot access tables on older version database

You say you can open in Access 2007. Please open and post what you checked under Tools > References...

There was one reference (can't remember the name at the moment) that was missing and hung up the application initially. I was able to open the references, uncheck it and save it in 2010 and the program was able to run (at least it appears to). This app is currently running on 2007. I have access to 2003 and 2007 but that would mean reinstalling these on my computer which is known to cause issues if I am not mistaken. Yes I have tried importing the objects into 2010 but not sure as it truly is 2010 since it seems to have an option to structure as a 2007 or earlier table. Not sure what this does.

I'm thinking it's a Reference problem because it was originally in Access 97 and I have had that happen. Do you have access to Access 2003? You could open it there and fix (uncheck) the References and then attempt to open in Access 2010. Barring that have you tried importing the objects into Access 2010. This may not work for the forms (or modules) if a Reference issue.

James,

Can you open any of those tables in Design View? Are these linked tables?

I was given a database to modify that was developed we think originally in Access 97, then upgraded to 2002/3 and then again to 2007. I am running Access 2010 on my computer. When I try to open a table that is any bigger than a couple records Access hangs and indicates it is not responding. Even if I am patient and let it sit for about 15 minutes nothing changes. I can open a table that has only 5 records. I can run reports, queries, forms, and other functions with this app. I have tried to compact and repair, and import the tables into new database all with the same result. Any suggestions?

James
